About the Talk
In this talk, Dr. Jarell Myers will be sharing how he uses the Invitation to Change (ITC) model in his work with families of adolescents—especially when substance use, anxiety, or other mental health concerns are involved. While many of us are trained in ITC, translating the model into language and strategies that feel natural for parents of teens can be challenging. He’ll walk through real clinical examples that show how he helps parents understand what their teen might be going through, and how to use ITC principles to connect rather than control.
The goal is to give families a framework that’s compassionate, flexible, and realistic for the stage their teen is in. Our hope is that you’ll walk away with some concrete ideas for how to bring the spirit of ITC into your own work with parents of teens.
