ITC Drop-In Group: New York State
For family and friends of someone struggling with substance use. NY State residents only.
Description
Stress Management | Communication Tools | Trust Building
In this support and skills group, participants will use the Invitation to Change Approach (ITC) to reflect on what it means to help, reimagine the role that loved ones can play in the change process, and learn evidence-supported strategies for helping a loved one struggling with addiction.
This group is geared towards family and friends of those struggling with substance use, but anyone is welcome to join. Please note this group is currently open to NY State Residents only. Join our mailing list to be alerted of other groups as they open.
The group provides an overview of the ITC in four sessions, and continually cycles through these sessions, with attendees welcome to join at any point. So if you join at session 3 or 4, know that we will soon loop back around to session 1, and you will get to cover anything you missed!
Please note: As the curriculum refreshes, so will our group leaders! Every 4 weeks a new set of our trained group leaders will step in to facilitate this group.
A final note: Though you are welcome to attend this group for as long as you like, please note that it is not designed to provide a comprehensive look at all of the ITC—rather, we hope it will provide you with a rich overview, as well as encouragement to learn more and possibly to join a longer-form ITC group.
What is the Invitation to Change Approach?
The Invitation to Change Approach is grounded in compassion, connection, and the understanding that families can have a powerful helping impact on those struggling to change. The ITC Approach draws on evidence-based practices also found in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and the Community Reinforcement and Family Training approach (CRAFT), as well as decades of clinical experience working with families and loved ones.
Will this event be recorded?
Due to the personal nature of these sessions, we cannot record them. However, sessions 1-4 are cycled through every four weeks, so whatever topic you missed will soon be covered again.
