Professional CE Training: Introduction to the Invitation to Change Approach

A 3 hour virtual professional training in the Invitation to Change Approach, with Dr. Carrie Wilkens (3 CE).

Description

This introductory training for professionals provides participants with an overview of the Invitation to Change (ITC) Approach, a compassionate, evidence-informed framework designed to support families and loved ones affected by substance use. Rooted in the science of behavior change, the ITC integrates concepts from Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT).

During this 3-hour training, participants will be introduced to the core principles and foundational concepts of the ITC Approach, including:

  • Helping with Understanding

  • Helping with Awareness

  • Helping with Action

  • How Practice Promotes Change

Participants will explore how these concepts can strengthen relationships, reduce conflict, and support positive change while maintaining compassion and connection with loved ones.

This training is designed for clinicians, peer support specialists, healthcare providers, educators, community leaders, and anyone working with families impacted by substance use. Through discussion, examples, and brief experiential exercises, participants will gain practical insight into how the ITC framework can be applied in clinical, peer, and community settings.

This workshop serves as an introduction to the Invitation to Change Approach and is not a substitute for the full ITC Intensive training.
